South West Initiative for Sustainable Development Agency (SWISDO) is a non-governmental organization established in 2019 in Baidoa with invaluable support from the local communities.
It is duly registered as Non-Governmental Organization in Federal Government of Somalia and in Southwest State of Somalia. SWISDO leadership is by board of directors and a competent management team that is concerned with daily operations.
The main office in Baidoa coordinates SWISDO’s field operations in different districts of South West State of Somalia in addition to coordinating with donors and other stakeholders. The programs are run by a team of 6 professional staff in the areas of WASH, Health, Skills Training, Livelihoods and Economic development. Since its registration, SWISDO has implemented over 25 projects on emergency covering WASH, Health and livelihoods development.
Since its establishment as an NGO in 2019, SWISDO’s programs in Somalia have been designed and implemented around a programming framework that promotes a socially just Society, in which all citizens have access to quality services and opportunities and take ownership of their development agenda through local human capital development targeting all and especially those marginalized on the basis of gender, social or economic status.
SWISDO advocates for and works towards adoption of appropriate policies, strategies and attitudes towards inclusive development and accountable government; SWISDO’S programs contribute to economic and livelihoods improvement intertwined with improved governance and local capacity development.
Due to enhanSWISDO organisational capacity, SWISDO is now contributing to asessment of needs in South West state. SWISDO’ Technical Capacity in WASH, Health and Livelihoods development has been strengthened through a structured human resource development in these thematic areas. Training, job-shadowing and strategic partnership with an International Management Consultancy Firm for organisational capacity development have jointly contributed to improved staff capacity.
SWISDO’ is increasingly programming in activities that promote inclusive development and accountable governance by empowering youth, women and other marginalised groups to actively engage in economic, political, cultural and social activities that promote peace and local resilience buidling.
The core strategy that underpins SWISDO’s implementation of projects in Somalia is the recognition that as the main stake holder, communities are the entry points for any interventions and therefore, works closely with all communities irrespective of their origin, clan or sub-clan, livelihood status, or political affiliation.
Good collaboration & cooperation is maintained with other stakeholders with complimentary programs to create synergy between different interventions. Being politically neutral and working within its area of operation, SWISDO has built and maintained a good reputation as a reliable partner for Somali Communities.
Projects implementation strategy integrates, both strategically and operationally, the community-driven socio-economic recovery with the community-driven safety interventions and ensures linkages with livelihoods and protection activities that take place within the displacement axis. There is great emphasis to support youth that show a genuine potential for localized stabilization and recovery, perceived as critical for stability in Somalia.
